Reflections on memory, meaning, and the spaces that hold our stories.

A Lesson in Home Design

I still remember the light in my grandparents’ dining room and how it poured through the bay window, making my cereal bowl glow. That house wasn’t perfect; it had nicked trim, dated appliances, and wallpaper that had seen better days. But it was special because my grandparents were in it.

We baked cookies in the kitchen, celebrated birthdays around the dining table, and ate breakfast for dinner most Saturday nights. Everything from the small to the monumental was experienced in that dining room. I can find memories of my whole childhood in that space. It’s where I introduced my kids to their great-grandparents, too.

The magic wasn’t in the walls or the paint. It was in the memories that filled every corner.

When it finally came time to say goodbye to both my grandparents and that space, my uncle hugged me outside and said, “Now it gets to be someone else’s story.” That’s when I understood what home really means. Homes are keepers of our souls. They hold our stories long after we’ve gone. I’ve carried that lesson with me into every home design and renovation project since.

The Heirloom Approach to Home Design and Renovation

Becoming a parent changed the way I see design. I used to think beauty was the goal. Now I know that a space—no matter how stunning—has to function first.

That’s the foundation of our approach at Heirloom Home Design. When I meet a client, I want to know how they live before we ever talk about how they want things to look. Do they cook big family meals? Need a spot to drop hockey bags? Love hosting dinner parties? These are the details that shape every project, whether it’s a custom kitchen design or home renovation.

Good design is not just about perfection. It’s about empathy, clarity, and care. Empathy for how life really looks inside a home. Clarity in how we communicate every step of the way. And care in every decision, from the flooring to the fixtures.

Why I Built Heirloom Home Design

When I started Heirloom Home Design, I wanted to create something with enough integrity to last. The name Heirloom represents the idea of history, legacy, and craftsmanship. It’s about creating homes that are designed to be loved and lived in for years to come.

Renovations can be stressful, emotional, and unpredictable. I can’t promise there won’t be surprises along the way, but I can promise honesty, thoughtfulness, and a process that keeps you feeling supported and informed from start to finish.

This is not just a business for me. It’s a calling. I care deeply about helping people create homes that reflect who they are—boldly, proudly, and unapologetically. I want every home we design and renovate to feel like an extension of the people who live there.

Because at Heirloom Home Design, we don’t just build beautiful spaces. We build the places that hold your story for generations.

Thinking about your own renovation story? Let’s start the conversation.
